I searched for a VU meter build to be able to check signals for their level. This is nothing fancy really. It basically shows the voltage of the signal. Between every diode you have a drop of approximately 0.7V so you can take that as a rule of thumb.

I usually use this if I want to amplify line levels to my modulars level using an amplifier module or the other way using an attenuverter before I plug in anything. Checking how hot the signal is.
